This horrific scene is the product of Scott's twisted imagination and a plea from a friend of his (Chad) to help with an April Fool's Day joke. Chad and his family are currently serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators in a support role at the JAARS facility in Papua New Guinea (There's a link to his blog under 'friends' to the right of this entry).
From what I understand, the bridge in the picture is the only way into the facility... or out. They recently did some work on it and Chad asked Scott to alter the original image to show the bridge collapsed. Well, Chad realized that could cause some upset at the campus and didn't want to cause any real trouble. Instead, Scott and Chad decided to make it much more of a joke.
Chad said Sea Cucumbers were an 'unofficial mascot' for JAARS.
Scott looked them up online... disgusting little things. Anyway, it turns out they actually look like this! This is an actual sea cucumber with only the background removed... and positioned to make it seem much larger than it is.
There are two nods to the TV show LOST (a mutual favorite) in the pic as well. One's pretty obvious and the other is more difficult to find... especially in such a small picture.
So, Chad posted this on the JAARS system and got some good responses back on it and not a few "That's disgusting"'s. All in all, it turned out pretty good for a quick job.
