Condiment Kid

Both girls love condiments; all kinds. As a toddler Mollie would use french fries as a ketchup delivery system. The same fry would be used repeatedly to scoop the ketchup until the fry could no longer support the weight of the ketchup. Allie unknowingly followed in her sisters foot steps. Recently we enjoyed In N Out for dinner. Towards the end of the meal I caught Allie cleaning her plate. Literally. She was determined not to let a single drop of ketchup go to waste.

and the answer is...

From what I have seen online our little mystery bug question is a noctuid moth or a sphinx moth pupa. It is really hard to tell what it is exactly without hatching it out first. If we find more maybe we will take that step.

Last post on my LOST dvds...

I thought I'd go ahead and post two of the menu videos I made for the DVDs I sent out. My goal with these menus was to: 1) show the main character of the show in an a)funny and/or b) completely innocuous scene which gives next to nothing away...
This has the potential to make boring menus, of course, but they are just menus after all...

Hope you enjoyed them.

Getting LOST

Scott here.
I've got two friends who now live outside the US and, for different reasons, have limited access to our mutually enjoyed show... LOST. In an effort to help both these friends (Each of whom I've known well since junior High - middle school for those of you under 25 - or earlier) I volunteered to Tivo (what did we ever do without you) the 4th season and then burn the episodes to DVD for these guys.
The writers strike meant only the first 8 episodes were finished and have aired. So, I've captured and created menus and put everything together. To top it off I created custom lightscribe labels for the discs and paper labels for the DVD containers...
Basically, I took the discs out of some old game boxes and made new 'in theme' labels. Here's some of what I made. Hope you enjoy them.

I really had a good time doing this and I'm looking forward to April 24 for the next batch of episodes. Woo Hoo!!

Name that gross looking thing

Scott spent the weekend working hard in the front yard in all his "free time" putting in a border along the front grass area. While digging he discovered what looks like a red cocoon. Then another. And another. He collected a few and here they are. They wiggled for a few seconds coming out of the dirt. When smashed (accidentally, of course) a greenish white fluid and a high pitched screaming came out. Well, maybe no screaming. But they do taste like chicken. ;) Just when I was wondering what to make for dinner. Does ANYONE know what these are?? Are they worth anything?

Ummm.... Is there another way out of here?

This horrific scene is the product of Scott's twisted imagination and a plea from a friend of his (Chad) to help with an April Fool's Day joke. Chad and his family are currently serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators in a support role at the JAARS facility in Papua New Guinea (There's a link to his blog under 'friends' to the right of this entry).
From what I understand, the bridge in the picture is the only way into the facility... or out. They recently did some work on it and Chad asked Scott to alter the original image to show the bridge collapsed. Well, Chad realized that could cause some upset at the campus and didn't want to cause any real trouble. Instead, Scott and Chad decided to make it much more of a joke.
Chad said Sea Cucumbers were an 'unofficial mascot' for JAARS.
Scott looked them up online... disgusting little things. Anyway, it turns out they actually look like this! This is an actual sea cucumber with only the background removed... and positioned to make it seem much larger than it is.
There are two nods to the TV show LOST (a mutual favorite) in the pic as well. One's pretty obvious and the other is more difficult to find... especially in such a small picture.
So, Chad posted this on the JAARS system and got some good responses back on it and not a few "That's disgusting"'s. All in all, it turned out pretty good for a quick job.

Little Easter and a Panic Attack

The last few weeks our family took turns being sick. Mollie had the flu and then Allie and Scott got it. Allie had it the worst of all. We are still helping her adjust to eating regular food again! She has had an issue with keeping meals down since she was born so it seems recovering from the flu is especially hard on her. We are now on the road to recovery!

This is the best picture I got of Allie and Mollie on Easter. Allie had a week in "jammas."

We still wanted Mollie to have a fun Easter even though our plans changed and we stayed home. We were given a gingerbread house kit before Christmas and I never got around to doing it with the girls. I have been spending time with Mollie in making a Spring House. She's enjoying it!
When I take Mollie shopping and she tries on dresses in a changing room, one of the tests she puts it through is if it's "spinny" enough. Such a girl.

Yesterday while I was in the car I looked in my wallet and discovered ALL my cards, including my driver's license, had been removed! Quickly I went through a panicked "where was I last??" Once I got home I realized I had just been out the previous evening and everything was intact. So I knew a certain little someone who loves to take my wallet apart got her hands on it. And after a call to my husband who I knew couldn't help me look while he was at work I got thirsty and went for some cold water. And look what I found...
Allie had taken the contents of my wallet and lined it up between the doors on the fridge. Not the first time she's done it. But I've always watched her do it before and it had been so long since she had done this trick it completely escaped my mind to check the refrigerator for my cards!!
